Beyond The Wall...
Interview with The Fruitarian One.
How long have you been a fruitarion and what made you choose this diet?
Hi, I'm Richard Blackman, many of you will know me as The Fruitarian One, I'm the
founder of Fruitarianfitness.com and I've been Fruitarian for 12 long, weird and
wonderful years and I'm enjoying great health now. Due to my severe detoxification
symptoms, dramatic weight loss and many failed attempts at trying to get off cooked
foods, my detoxification period was a nightmare experience, which was made worse
by the fact that I was doing it all unsupported and with no guidance. For that reason, I
quit fruitarianism more times than I can remember, but in my heart I always knew
that if I could just weather the storm, I'd be ok. At that time, there were no Fruitarian
mentors willing to inspire or show the way forward. I received no support from the
raw food forums either. Being a Fruitarian at that time was not good because you
were seen as an extremist so I was just ridiculed, verbally attacked and told that I
couldn't possibly last any more than 2-3 months on an all fruit diet. So, in the end, I
just got sick and tired of seeking support and trying to find like minded people and I
soon realised that if I wanted to do this Fruitarian thing, I would have to go it alone.
Where did this diet started from. Can you give us a short history on it.
Fruitarianism is the original and stricter form of raw veganism, nobody owns the
lifestyle/diet, Fruitarianism started when the first human pick up a fruit and ate it, it's
beauty is in it's simplicity because all you do is pick up your favourite fruit and eat it,
no flashy addictive raw gourmet recipes, no expensive equipment, no prep time, the
hard part is undoing all the emotional and physical damage from years on cooked
foods, people go Fruitarian for spiritual, ethical reasons as well as for improved
health.
Fruitarianism has always got a bad rap simply because so many people mess it up,
most people just don't want to give up cooked foods or stay commited to a healthier
lifestyle.
The main staples that Fruitarians eat are:
Sweet Fruits: Oranges, bananas, apples, melons, grapes, papayas, berries, figs,
dates, mangoes, etc.
Non Sweet Fruits: cucumbers, avocados, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc.
Vegetables: lettuces and other greens, celery, etc.
Nuts and Seeds: Sunflower and squash seeds, almonds, walnuts, soft coconut
meat, etc.

Your a certified personal trainer and a sports nutritionist. What fruit has the most protein and gives the most energy?
Because of my own experiences I don't believe in modern nutrition and my approach isn't to see what has the "most" simply
because that's not what it's about, your body will need different produce at different times of it's cleansing, it's not concerned with
"superfoods" it's main concern is to cleanse and rejuvanate naturally.
Personally I believe that when the cleansing is done the body is capable of rebuilding itself without the need for excess protien,
calories, etc.
I was reading your bio and wanted to know what do you mean by giving up cooked food is like getting off of drugs? And some
people say by drinking too much fruit juice will make you go to the bathroom a lot. And one of my friend told me that the best
time to eat fruits is only in the morning and not in night time. What do you have to say about this.
Well everyone is different and will react to changes in their lifestyle/diet differently so don't let people impose what works for them
onto you because you are not them and they are not you, listen to your own body and give it the material it needs, when it needs it,
also when you try to get off of cooked foods your going to go through detoxification/withdrawl symptoms as if you were on regular
drugs, as well as symptoms such as such as:
Diarrhea, Extreme fatigue and/or its opposite, restlessness, Cramps, Headache, Aches, Pains, Arthritic flair up, Insomnia,
Nausea, Sinus congestion, Fever and/or chills, Frequent urination and/or urinary tract discharges, Drop in blood pressure,
Skin eruptions, including: boils, hives, and rashes. Cold or flu-like symptoms. Strong emotions: anger, despair, sadness, fear,
etc. Suppressed memories arise, Anxiety, Mood swings.
You mention on one of your web site that we don’t need expensive gym equipments to work out. How is this so?
Well in my opinion you get out what you put in, most people can get a intense workout by simply going to the local park and using
the bodyweight exercise stations that are available and with some good ole determination/gusto, I've built all I have now by doing
bodyweight exercises at the local park out in the open air.

What’s your opinion on steroids? Can humans really become muscular just by
eating fruits?
Well look at me, it can definately be done but we have to change our thinking and
approach, I know a lot of athlete's that go Fruitarian thinking they will try it out and
see what happens, then they get there butts kicked by cravings and detoxification
symptoms, then the final nail in the coffin comes when they start losing weight
and energy, so they quit and go back to the comfort of cooked foods then end up
trashing the Fruitarian lifestyle.
I see this so many times, problem is that it's real hard to be an athlete when your
going through a total body overhaul, my advice is to pick the time to be an athlete
or bodybuilder when you've completed your cleansing/detox process, that's when
you'll see the true results.
Can you give us your daily diet record. Like what you eat for breakfast, lunch,
dinner and snacks before and after work out.
16 -32oz of fresh squeezed orange juice per day, I eat very little and only when truly
hungry.

What do you do for hobby besides working out and eating fruits.
I spend a lot of time helping people on my own Fruitarian Fitness forum and getting active, you have to realise that working out
and eating fruits are so much more to me than a hobby, the quality of my life depends on me being liberated from the
emotional and physical addictions of cooked foods and staying active as well as giving my body what it needs.
You run a Dobie rescue can you give us more information about this?
I no longer have the time to run the rescue and had to close it down.
Any suggestions on people who are interested on becoming a fruitarion?
It's the bodies natural instinct to always cleanse itself so when you go strict Fruitarian you will eventually get rid of the bodies
bulky waste and debris from cooked food and kick start your bodies natural cleansing process and given the right conditions, it
will start to clean out all the waste and debris left in the bodies organs from the cooked foods you ate in the past at a deeper
level and this is what makes the detoxification period so hard because after eliminating cooked foods from your diet, you will
then crave cooked foods in the same way as a drug addict or alcoholic will crave drugs or alcohol, as well as suffer from
detoxification symptoms.
The length of time it takes for people to get over their detoxification period varies from person to person. It can last weeks to
years but, only once the body has cleansed itself fully, can we truly feel and experience all of what Fruitarianism has to offer.
Unfortunatly very few people ever get to that point due to fear, uncertainty and severe detoxification symptoms, which many
mistake for illness.
My advice to anyone considering Fruitarianism is to ease into it over a period of years. First, master being a Raw Vegan, eating
heavier foods then master being a strict 100% Raw Vegan then see if your ready for Fruitarianism.
Fruitarianism ain't nothing to jump into unprepared, so unless your super hardcore and can handle some severe detoxification
symptoms, I'd ease into it!
