AFA operates under the simple principle that animals do not exist for
humans to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment. We
promote a Vegan lifestyle. AFA strives to end animal suffering through
educational outreach, demonstrations, and media involvement.
Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer
global movement that shares free vegan
meals as a protest to war and poverty.
Each chapter collects surplus food that
would otherwise go to waste from
grocery stores, bakeries and markets,
as well as donations from local farmers
and sometimes incorporating dumpster
diving, then prepares community meals
which are served for free to anyone who
is hungry. The central beliefs of the
group are:
Always vegan or vegetarian and free to everyone. Each chapter is independent and autonomous and
makes decisions using the consensus process. Food not bombs is dedicated to nonviolence. Food
Not Bombs works to call attention to poverty and homelessness in society by sharing food in public
places and facilitating gatherings of poor and homeless people. Anyone who wants to cook may cook,
and anyone who wants to eat may eat. Food Not Bombs strives to include everyone.

Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society was founded by Noah
Levine, author of Dharma Punx and Against the Stream, to make the
teachings of the Buddha available to all who are interested. We wish to
create and sustain communities of healthy, accountable, wise and
compassionate people from every walk of life. We welcome people from all
racial, economic, sexual, social, political and religious backgrounds and
preferences and believe that the path of awakening is attainable by all and
should be available to all...Part of our core mission is a commitment to
social action. We are moving in this direction with projects to feed the
homeless, work with gang and prison populations and those in recovery
centers. We are continuing to engage our community and build a center that
serves it's population in ways that will support the dharma and our practice
both on and off the cushion.

KPFK (90.7 FM) is a listener-sponsored radio station based in North
Hollywood, California, United States, which serves the Greater Los Angeles
Area, and also streams 24 hours a day via the Internet. It was the second of
five stations in the non-commercial, listener-sponsored Pacifica Radio
network. KPFK airs some national programming, including Democracy
Now! and Free Speech Radio News. KPFK program producers are accorded
the maximum amount of editorial freedom possible. The only requirement is
that they adhere to KPFK's mission statement, which states that all
programming must be educational and non-commercial, must "serve the
cultural welfare of the community", and must "contribute to a lasting
understanding between nations and between the individuals of all nations,
races, creeds and colors". The station's political position is generally
regarded as on the left-wing of the political spectrum. This includes issues
regarding women, the many ethnic groups which make up a sizable
population of Southern California, and the LGBT community. I

Mass Media Records is a label, print shop and now a fully stocked bricks and mortar shop carrying tons of
independent music, apparel, zines, books and all kinds of outsider DIY ephemera. The label started in the
early 90s as a way to document the “orange county peace punk” scene which was a group of idealistic
punks set into motion by the peace punks in the UK such as CRASS, CONFLICT, and ANTISECT to create
their own politically conscious hardcore punk scene amidst a growing trend of violent apathy in the 2nd
wave of hardcore in Los Angeles and Orange County. While our release schedule has picked up in the
past years we have always been committed to releasing music by bands whose sound and message
embraces the Do-It-Yourself Independent spirit and the political ideas that naturally spring from such
radical rejections of mainstream conventions. Through the network of label trading Mass Media Records
operated as a distro set up at shows selling independently released records for many years and has now
grown into a physical store. In a time when music has very much transcended the physical realm we feel
that much of the artistry and proliferation of ideas (both aesthetic, poetic, political, or whatever) lies in the
physical product of records, tapes, cds, zines and books.
Collector/Horder-isms aside, we would hope that the power that music and words gives us in our daily
lives might be relegated to more than a simple file on a device.
